Dear Asher,
One year ago today the Lord gave us you as a precious gift. We never could have imagined how our lives would change and how blessed we would be by your presence in our family. When we found out we were having a baby boy we knew right away the name we would give you. "Asher" means Happy and Blessed. There could not be a more perfect name for you, our son. You are such a happy baby and we are the ones who are so very blessed. Your cheerfulness is contagious, you always greet us with such joy. You clearly love your family and have such a peaceful demeanor.
We have been so blessed by every moment the Lord has given us with you this past year. What a year it has been! Very early on, we sensed that something significant was going to be different about you. At the time we didn't know anything about your food allergies, but it seemed as though God was preparing my heart for something upcoming. To be honest, at times I feared the worst, but through those times God reminded me that He was in control. Soon after, it was clear that something was wrong with your response to my milk. Thankfully the Lord led us to the right people to ask question after question, which resulted in gaining clarity about your allergies. You have been so patient with your mommy. Throughout the whole process, we rarely had to deal with a lot of fussiness, which is surprising given how uncomfortable you must have been due to receiving items we didn't know you were allergic to. God has been so kind to protect your little body. Often we have found ourselves grateful for Benedryl and how quickly it works. But ultimately, each time you have a bad reaction, it is the Lord who is caring for and protecting you, and for that, we could not be more grateful. I do not at all feel this has been a significant trial for us, however it has certainly been used to heighten our awareness of our need for the Lord's help. It has been another opportunity to recount God's faithfulness to us.
I just can't believe you are already a one year old Asher. We love watching you grow and change and are excited to see the many ways the Lord will bless you over the coming years. You are such a precious gift to us. It's a privilege to have been entrusted to care for you and what a joy it is. Daily, we pray the Lord saves you at a very early age and that you will live your life loving and serving Him. Our hearts simply couldn't be more full as we thank the God for giving us you.
